The deadline to register interest in standing for a place on Newcastle Youth Council has been extended to Monday 8th October.

Elections for thirty places on the Youth Council take place this month and we are looking for young people aged 11 to 17 to stand as candidates.

If you are interested in making a difference for young people in Newcastle and getting young people's voices heard by decision-makers, this could be an ideal opportunity for you to make real changes.

Being a Youth Councillor needs commitment and time. It involves regular meetings with other young people and decision-makers, as well as training sessions and trips away on residentials. It involves asking young people in Newcastle what things they would like to be made better. It can be hard work. Many members take on special roles in the Youth Council. Four members will be chosen in February to represent our youth at a national level through the UK Youth Parliament. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in these types of things as full training will be provided. You will serve on the Youth Council for two years.

If you are interested in standing, get in touch. EMAIL newcastle.youthcouncil@children-ne.org.uk PHONE 0191 2733 997 TEXT 07 515 577 631. The closing date for registering has been extended to Tuesday 8th October but get in touch as soon as you can, which will give you a longer time to organise an election campaign.

Voting will take place through ballot boxes at schools and through an online voting system from 15th to 18th October. Results will be announced on the evening of Friday 19th October at the Civic Centre and those standing as candidates should try and be available that evening.

Those elected to the Youth Council will be expected to attend a residential in October half-term from 29th to 31st October. The first full meeting of the new Youth Council will take place at Newcastle City Library, 2pm Sunday 4th November.
